Look out for the Allendale Fair in May, the Allendale Show in August and the historic Tar Barrel Festival on New Years Eve as well as a host of other shows and festivals in local towns and villages.
Station House is the former Allendale Railway Station, the terminal station on the Hexham to Allendale line, which closed in 1950. Station House Flat faces the platform and is comprised of the ticket office, station-masters office and waiting rooms of the old station.
The area abounds in paths for walking and cycling with a host of wildlife to be seen and the mile-long walk along the riverbank to Allendale is particularly recommended. The best, central, part of Hadrians Wall is only 10 miles away, with a range of local museums where you can absorb the history of this world heritage site. Why not walk some of the newly opened National Trail along the wall or some of the circular paths which lead from it? The bustling market town of Hexham is 10 miles away, with many small shops and coffee shops to explore.
