Built in the early eighteenth century and turned into an ale house only a few years later, we are situated on the top of a hill in an area of outstanding natural beauty amidst some of the best countryside and with one of the finest views from any pub in the south of England.
There are many local attractions within a short drive including Stonehenge, The Hawk Conservancy, Andover Iron Age Museum, Thruxton Race Circuit, and the Museum of Army Flying. We are also fortunate to have some of the best walking, riding and cycling routes in the area.We are open for lunch and dinner every day, with all dishes freshly prepared. To accompany either a light lunch or more indulgent evening meal we offer Cask Marque accredited real ales including local breweries such as Hop Back (Salisbury), Three Castles (Pewsey), Anwell Brewery (Basingstoke) and a varied wine list.We are a family and pet friendly pub and have recently built a new childrens playground as well as offering a childs menu and smaller roast portions during Sunday Lunch.Accommodation is available in our four en-suite letting rooms either for a mid-week business trip, a quiet weekend break or a family get away with full English breakfast included.
Directions.
From Andover take the A342 westbound towards Ludgershall and Devizes for appx 1.7 miles going through Weyhill. At the next roundabout take the second exit (straight over) and proceed for appx 0.7 miles. Turn right (signposted Appleshaw and The Chutes). Continue for through Appleshaw for appx 3 miles. At small grass triangle turn left (signposted Upper Chute) and after 50 yards turn left again into Forest Lane. (Please note this is a small narrow lane). At the top of Forest Lane, turn left and The Cross Keys is 100 yards on the right hand side.
