The Black Swan is a traditional 17th Century Cumbrian Inn set in the heart of the Eden Valley, offering beautiful en-suite accommodation, fantastic food and great wines.

Our ideal location between the ancient market towns of Penrith & Appleby-in-Westmorland, makes visiting all destinations in Cumbria, the Lake District National Park and the Historic City of Carlisle a must. There are seven en-suite rooms in total, all named after a location within the local area. All of our bedrooms provide our guests with TVs , Wi-Fi, tea and coffee making facilities. Our king sized rooms also now contain a Nespresso Machine. Included in the room price is our full traditional Cumbrian breakfast. If you are looking for a good restaurant near Penrith, breaking a journey or travelling the iconic Coast-2-Coast route there is nowhere better to kick back in front of our roaring fire and relax with a local ale or stunning wine from our selection. Our restaurant lunchtime menu is served daily between 12.00 and 1.45pm. We offer a selection of home cooked roasts every Sunday and a wide choice of evening meals served everyday between 6pm and 8.30pm.

This traditional 17th-century Cumbrian inn is set in the Eden Valley, between the old market towns of Appleby and Penrith. It has a cosy bar with a log fire, and has free Wi-Fi and free parking on site. Each room at Black Swan has a carpeted floor and wooden furnishings. Rooms all come with a flat-screen digital TV, and facilities for making tea and coffee. You can enjoy fine wines and local ales in the bar, and hearty meals in the restaurant. Food is locally sourced, and for breakfast there is a full cooked breakfast with speciality Cumbrian sausages. The Black Swan owns fishing rights on a 4.5 mile stretch of the picturesque River Eden, famous for trout and salmon fishing. Guests at the Black Swan can request a pass to enjoy free fishing onsite. A wide range of fishing lakes are also available within a 15-minute drive.

Whatever time of the year you choose to visit us, you can explore the beautiful Eden Valley and Lake District, taking in the breath taking scenery. Set just a stones throw away from the main Lake District tourist hubs of Keswick, Windermere, Ambelside and Pooley Bridge, the Black Swan is set in the peaceful village of Culgaith which eminates a friendly and welcoming atmosphere from the locals. Only a short drive away are the famous Ullswater Steamers and Rheged Discovery Centre. Just on the other side of the A66 is Whinfell Forest, home to Centre Parcs, and we are lucky enough to be close to the Viallge Bakery in Melmerby which is famous for it s fantastic organic produce. Border Game Angling is based on the River Eden and offers a professional fly casting tuition and guided fishing service if this takes your fancy. After a busy day of visiting the local areas, take time to relax in our cosy bar complete with a roaring log fire. Dine on sumptuous food, accompanied by fine wines and local real ales. The perfect end to a perfect day.
