The Bird in Hand was built in 1935, shortly after neighbouring Mildenhall Air Base opened. The Bird in Hand is a popular local community pub, offering rooms in the chalet block at the rear of the building.
The Bird in Hand Motel is still a popular place for those visiting the East Anglian countryside or the 2 local usaf Bases. All rooms have colour television and tea & coffee making facilities, as well as an en-suite shower and toilet. Both smoking and non-smoking rooms are available - please be sure to state your preference when booking. We operate a pay-on-arrival policy. Food and drink etc. are on a pay-as-you-go basis.
Directions.
By car: We are located on the a1101. Turn off the a11 at the Fiveways roundabout (Barton Mills), taking the first exit into Mildenhall. Go straight over the mini-roundabout and straight over at the traffic lights. Just around the corner from a war memorial on your left you will see another small roundabout. Turn right here towards Beck Row. Carry straight on down this road (North Terrace) and go straight over at the 2 mini-roundabouts near the Esso garage. You will soon see the air base on your left. At the next roundabout turn left towards Beck Row (keeping the base on your left). Make your way through Beck Row until you come to another roundabout - you will now see the Bird In Hand Motel in front of you.
